Difference between Site Engineer and Supervisor
Both the job profiles have the different roles and responsibilities. Few of them are described specifically as below –
Responsibilities of Site Engineer –
- calculates the quantity of shuttering, steel bars etc.
- also instructs the supervisor to check the alignment of shuttering
- checking the quality of material
- however gives instruction to the supervisor regarding the placement of bars in structural member
- provides instruction to the supervisor therefore they get to know how to allocate the manpower to get maximum productivity
- also keeps the record of number of labours working and working timings of each and every labour
- thus resolving technical issues
- similarly, tracking up the material wastage
- however takes care of quality control
- also measurement and valuation
- preparing record drawings, site diary and technical reports
- liaising with the project planning engineer
- liaising with company or project purchasing department
- Supervising and counseling junior
- Job review of subordinate staff
- reporting and billing
Responsibilities of Supervisor –
- make sure the carpenter is on the job to provide the required quantity of shuttering
- however oversee delivery of material
- checks whether the alignment is fine
- looks after the bar bender is on the job to provide the required quantity of work
- Therefore oversee the operations
- make sure that the steel bars are placed as per the instruction of site engineer
- monitoring the work progress
- also takes care the manpower is allocated at right location as per the instruction of site engineer
- also study the drawing and execute the work
- keep in close contact with the members of site team

- Site Engineer keeps Supervisor as their assistant. Also we can say that Supervisor assists the Site Engineer
- Supervisor work as per the instructions provided by the Site Engineer
After few years experience, a Supervisor can become Site Engineer.
